Edublogosphere Reacts to Obama Victory
Posted by Staff on November 5th, 2008
While we are still waiting to here from many, there have been some interesting, some expected, and some outstanding posts on yesterday’s election throughout the edublogosphere and beyond:
- Edwize, AFT’s Education Blog, has a post with their President Randi Weingarten’s comments on the election, hailing Obama’s election in much the same way the rest of the country is. Notable considering the role the AFT seems to have played in the election
- Andrew Rotherham of Eduwonk posted a few of his own thoughts on the election, most importantly that Democrats should not assume Obama’s policy, especially that associated with Education, will go thru without a hitch, even if there will be a Democratic majority. This is especially true if the Lieberman proof filibuster block of 60 Democrats in the Senate is not reached, which seems unlikely at this point.
- Patrick Riccards of Eduflack writes in “An Open Letter to President-Elect Barrack Obama,”
- Now is not the time to retreat to the educational status quo of a Democratic president. Now is not the time to put power in the hands of those seeking to protect and conserve what was, or those who are troubled by the notion of innovation or new approaches. And now is certainly not the time to refight the NCLB fight, throwing punches that should have been thrown six years ago.
For a non-educated related piece on the election, check out this incredible article by Umair Haque:
“Obama’s Seven Lessons for Readical Innovator.” Umair Haque is a really smart man and identifies just how revolutionary and excellent Obama’s campaign was over the past year and a half.
Also, is it not about time that WordPress’s spell checker added “Obama” as a word that should not be recognized as spelled incorrectly?
